has undertaken improvement of towns water supply operations in Mzuzu
and Karonga under the Northern Region Water Board in Malawi. The
assignments includes reviewing existing water supply infrastructure
and management situations and recommending improvements both in

DALE AND SHEBEDINO RURAL WATER
SUPPLY SCHEME PROJECT, 1997 - 1998
MCE
has undertaken the detail engineering design and study of operational
and maintenance, management set-up for Dale and Shebedino Rural
Water Supply Scheme. The objective of this project is to provide
adequate and safe water for over 271, 000 people. The study included
assessment of manpower and financial requirements of the operation
and maintenance of the system, recommend an appropriate community
managed management system, study and survey of the optimal pipe
line route, design of the spring intake, booster pumping stations,
reservoirs and main pipe line and distribution net work in the SNNPRS,
South Ethiopia.
IMPROVEMENT TO INFRASTRUCTURE SERVICES
AND WATER SUPPLY FOR SANDFORD ENGLISH COMMUNITY SCHOOL 1998 - 2000
MCE undertook the
study for the improvement of the existing infrastructure, water
supply, sewerage system, storm drains external works and electrical
installation. MCE also conducted construction supervision for the
rehabilitation works.

Gash-Barka Zone Rural Water Supply Feasibility
Study in Eritrea was financed by KFW. The activities carried out
were socio-economic study, groundwater assessment and design and
development of prototype schemes for different village setting including
operation & maintenance guidelines.

ELEVEN TOWNS WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION

was sub-consultant to Sanyo Consultants of Japan and undertook the
survey of water use and sanitary conditions as well as surveys of
socio-economic and cultural background of the target population.
The project was funded by Japan International Co-operation Agency
(JICA).
SMALL TOWNS WATER AND SANITATION PROJECT, UGANDA - COMPLETED
MCE
through its Nairobi based subsidiary firm, MBC, and in association
with ACE of Kampala, Uganda and John Van Nostrand Associates Limited
(JVA) of Canada, was involved in the design and construction supervision
of water supply and sanitation services for the towns of Lugazi
and Wobulenzi in Uganda. The study which commenced in 1994 was based
on the concept of demand-driven, community-based services.
WUSH WUSH II TEA PLANTATION WATER SUPPLY PROJECT
MCE
undertook the assessment of availability of ground water system
for Wush Wush II Tea Factory and worker’s residential area
and prepared designs, 1998.
DIRE-DAWA TEXTILE FACTORY; FEASIBILITY
STUDY OF WATER SUPPLY 1994-1995

was engaged by the Dire-Dawa Textile Factory to assess the existing
factory water demand and supply and to come up with recommendations
and designs for system improvement, upgrading and/or expansion.
2 TOWNS WATER SUPPLY PROJECT
Feasibility study and design for water supply
and sanitation for the towns of Axum and Lalibela. The work was
carried out by MCE
in association with DEVECON of Finland.
ADWA WATER SUPPLY STUDY- 1993
Feasibility study and design of a water supply
system for the town of Adwa, based on storage dam. The study also
included the provision of drinking water supplies to the small rural
towns and communities around Adwa and was carried out for Water
Supply and Sewerage Authority (WSSA) by MCE
in joint venture with DEVECON of Finland.
MEKELE WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION
STUDY- 1993
Feasibility study and design of the water
supply and sanitation system. Part of the work was undertaken by
MCE as sub-consultants
to DEVECON of Finland.
TOWNS WATER SUPPLY STUDY
Feasibility study and design of water supply
system for Assela, Shashemane and Zeway towns and rehabilitation
for 7 other towns. The study also included water supplies to the
rural communities in the immediate environs of towns and was conducted
for Water Supply and Sewerage Authority. A staff of MCE
participated as Deputy Project Manager of the Tahal Consulting Engineers
team.

Feasibility study and design of water supply
and sanitation systems for 5 major towns in Ethiopia. Part of the
work was undertaken by MCE
as sub-consultants to DEVECON Engineers and Architects.
GODE AGRO-INDUSTRIAL PROJECT
Feasibility study for irrigation study on
20,000 ha land and associated agro industrial establishment including
the provision of drinking water supply to the surrounding rural
communities. The study was conducted for ministry of state farm.
A staff of MCE participated
as an irrigation expert as part of Tahal Consulting Engineers team.

use and preparation of tender documents.
STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION
EQUIPMENT
MCE in association
with SINTEC undertook a study of the Management of Construction
Equipment for the Ethiopian Social Rehabilitation and Development
Fund. The study reviewed the existing establishment of operation
and maintenance of water supply and earthworks construction equipment
in Ethiopia. Over six alternatives for the management of equipment
fleet were assessed and based on objective criteria established,
the preferred fleet management options were ranked and recommendation
provided. The study was supported by UNDP.
