Under contract with Expertise France MCE has completed an assignment carry out the environmental and social due diligence associated with the rehabilitation/restoration and opening to the public of the National Palace of Addis-Ababa (phase 1). The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) included assessment of topography, landforms, geology, soil climate and meteorology, air quality, hydrology as well as flora and fauna types and diversity, social and cultural environment
MCE with contract with Ethiopian institute of Agricultural research is conducting feasibility study and detail design for three research centers small scale irrigation projects.

MCE is undertaking a situation analysis and identifying appropriate technologies for house hold Irrigation in eight woredas. The project will identify irrigation experience of households, conduct technical and environmental feasibility of solar pumps and drip systems, define operational modality of technologies, prepare design and detail technical specifications for both water lifting technologies (solar pumps and water saving technologies (drip systems). The project also includes, supply chain assessment, operation and maintenance manuals preparation, return on investment for technologies.
MCEin Joint Venture with Studio GalliIngegneria S.p.A and Sembenelli Consulting S.r.l of Italy has signed a consultancy service agreement for Construction Supervision and Contract Management works for Zarema May-Day Dam Project. May Day dam is being built on Zarema River in WolkaitWoreda, Tigray State, on 36 hectares of land. The dam will have a width of 720 meters with height of 143 meters. It creates artificial lake that collects 3.5 billion cubic meters of water when completed.
MCEhas completed feasibility study and preparation of a business plan for large scale modern agricultural agro-processing projects in northern Ethiopia, Raya Valley. MCE’s services include developing a roadmap to fully develop animal husbandry, agro processing plants, development of water system, infrastructure.
MCEin association with DOHWA consult of Korea has undertaken feasibility study of Kilinto and Bole Lemi Phase II Industrial Zones. MCE has provided input of an Environmentalist, Financial Analyst and was also involved in the Economic analysis and data collection for Special Economic zones demand analysis.

MCEunder contract with Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) has successfully executed design of small scale irrigation with about 30ha. The service included detail design of pressurized irrigation scheme suitable for sprinkler and drip system from ground water source, detail cost estimate.

MCEhas successfully and ex-Post evaluation of irrigation Projects that were funded AgenceFrançaise de Developpement (Afd) French Development Agency. MCE is conducting review of report, interviews and undertake the evaluation based of five criteria recommended by OECD’s DAC: Relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and responsibility.
MCE has undertaken detailed assessment of an irrigation Scheme in OromiaRegin , West Hararge region, DobaWoreda, to conduct a design review with bill of quantity, geotechnical investigation, socio economic analysis to insure sustainability of the Wangur Small Irrigation Scheme.
MCEis study to rehabilitate current irrigation system, which is furrow system and gravity fed and development of an alternate systems indicating feasibility of sprinkler, micro jet and drip irrigation systems in the Billate farm which is under The National Tobacco Enterprise.
MCE in association with BRLI of France is undertaking consultancy service for Environmental and Social Impact assessment of about 20,000ha Irrigation and drainage schemes at Megech Pump (at Seraba), Ribb and Anger Dam. The assessment covers the area that could be potentially disturbed by activities related to the schemes during development, construction and operational phases, and relevant infrastructure or facilities such as access roads, worker settlements and services.
MCE in association with BRLI of France and DHV of Netherlands, Shora consult of Sudan has completed a consultancy service in a project that is aimed at promoting integrated approach to irrigation and drainage development in the eastern Nile basin. The project includes ascertaining the viability of the projects proposed by riparian countries and preparation of guidelines for selection of irrigation and drainage projects.
MCE in association with Sir Williams Halcrow and Partners limited of UK is undertaking integrated Watershed management for Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office to conduct detailed project preparation for the identified three sub-watersheds in an investment-ready format. The service also includes institutional, environmental, social, economic and technical aspects of the project.
MCEhas undertaken pressurized Irrigation System Study and detailed design in Amara Regional State, Kobo girana Valley covering an area of 17,000 ha. The study includes socio-economic survey, topographic survey, geophysical survey, drilling supervision works, institutional management study
MCE in association with Sir Williams Halcrow and Partners limited of UK and Sogreah of France is undertaking study of Awash Flood control and watershed management. MCE has provided a Socio-economic, Agronomist, Financial Analyst, Irrigation Engineer, and Environmentalist.
MCE has undertaken the feasibility study and Engineering Design of Darge, Ide, Mejege, Gonga, Dhakat and Fedis.
MCEhas undertaken a study of existing irrigation schemes, private sector’s role in irrigation, opportunities and constraints of promoting medium and large scale irrigation at national level.
MCE has participated in the consulting service to undertake Koga Dam and irrigation and Watershed Design project. MCEprovides key project staffs as Deputy Resident Engineer, Geo-technical Engineer, Irrigation Engineer, Hydrologist and CAD Operators. The major works of the project includes main and saddle dam designs, Geo-technical investigation, Flood analysis for optimum spillway design and drainage structures, reservoir simulation, Irrigation system design for about 6,000 ha irrigation development in the Koga valley, tender document preparation and construction supervision.
MCE in association with Tahal Consulting Engineers Ltd undertook Reservoirs Bathymetric Survey and Catchment Areas for Legedadi, Drie and Gefersa Reservoir for the Addis Ababa Water Supply.
MCE conducted Topography, soil survey and mapping of 1,000 ha in Mattle farm, Meki-Zeway area. The study included detailed topography and soil survey of 300 ha as a basis for designing drip irrigation system.
Under contract to Oromi Irrigation Development Authority, MCE is undertaking field surveys and preparation of study, design and tender documentation. The work is supported byIFAD.
MCE is sub-consultant to WWDSE and is involved in a multi-disciplinary study dealing with physical resource assessment, socio-economic surveys, identification of development issues and constraints, definition of strategies and elaboration of phased development. The study will be undertaken in 3 phases and is due for completion in 2004.
Under sub-consultancy agreement to Devecon of Finland, MCE prepared assessment of flood characteristics and drainage network for Bahir Dar Town.
Under contract to Science and Technology Commission, and in association with ECO-Consult,MCE is engaged in the elaboration of the needs for institutionalized R&D activities in the water sector.
Under contract to the African Development Bank, MCE participated in the appraisal of SPFS Phase 1 for possible bank financing, Rehabilitation of small scale irrigation schemes was included in the programme.
Under contract to the African Development Bank, MCE participated in the appraisal of the small holder out growers scheme growing sugar cane under sprinkler irrigation.
Under agreement with Oromiya Economic Study Project Office, MCE prepared an assessment of the water resources in Oromiya Region. Irrigation, water supply and hydropower potential, status and development was reviewed, together with privatization for phased development.
MCE was involved in the development of Water Resources Management Policy for the African Development Bank.
Under contract to the African Development Bank, MCE was involved in the Appraisal of Small – Scale Irrigation Project in Ghana.
Identification and Appraisal of Investment project in Region 3 and 6. The appraisal covered the water and land resources assessment over an area of 400,000 ha to select suitable large scale development projects.
Flood Protection and drainage study in the Borkana River Valley. The activities carried out include impact assessment of flood protection dyke constructed through World Vision support and the assessment of flood and drainage problem with provision of appropriate solution.
MCE was involved in the detailed design of a diversion structure (weir), main canal, irrigation system review and design, and off-line storage. The client was Birale Agricultural Development PLC, a private investor, developing some 4000 ha under irrigation. Cotton was the main crop, however, horticultural crops, vegetables, oil seeds and some cereals were also being grown on portions of the land.
MCE in association with HALCROW were engaged by AL-MESH plc to prepare a pre-investment study followed by detail design and set-up of management system for an irrigation development on an area of about 12,000 ha in the Lower Awash Valley. The study and evaluation involved assessment of water availability and allocation in the Awash basin, detailed sectoral studies in the area of land resource, agriculture, engineering, environment, socio-economics and the analysis of alternative development options and preparation of optimum schemes.
Based on the outcome of the preliminary assessment of the water and land resources potentials, detailed designs of the irrigation system for intensive agriculture of high value crops was carried out. MCE was sub-consultant to Tahal Consulting Engineers.
MCE was involved in the preparation of Programme Implementation Manual for Tigary, Amhara and SNNPRS Regions for the Ministry of Water Resources.
Appraisal on land development design and agro-ecological study. The study was focusing on 2,000 ha irrigation systems and soil conservation study for 20,000 ha cultivated land. The consultancy work was done by MCE in association with SINTEC for North – Western Agricultural Development Corporation.
MCE in Association with ABD-Consult undertook an assessment for over 35 km of canal works and 70 km of road network. In addition, MCE provided assistance in contract administration for the Finchaa Sugar Factory Project.
MCE undertook identification and appraisal of rain fed and irrigation projects in the development, operation and management of agro-industrial schemes in the Amhara Region for the production and marketing of agricultural products both for the domestic and export markets.
The study was based on the analysis and evaluation ofexisting data and information and reconnaissance field studies and analysis.

MCE made selection of 15,000 ha LIVESTOCK QUARANTINE area near Ayisha Town, Shinille Zone, Somali National Regional State for ELFORA Agro Industries PLC.
MCE completed the Rangelands and Water Development Study for Afar Regional State. The study included assessment of the location and extent of population, climate, water budget, relief, and topography, geology and tectonics, vegetation, land use and land cover, socio-economic, livestock and rangelands development.
MCEin association with ABD-Consult undertook the study to assess the situation of washed coffee in all areas of Oromia Region.
MCE undertook an agricultural based regional development study in north-west Ethiopia covering an area of about 400,000 ha. The study aimed at assessing the resources, development potentials and constraints and preparing short and long term development plans for the rational utilization of the land, soil, water, forest, livestock and other resources. Water harvesting techniques including spate irrigation were considered for the lowland areas.
MCE undertook a reconnaissance study of the water resources of the Selale area covering five districts for the provision of water for domestic, livestock and irrigation use. The study also covered the socio-economic aspect.
The service provided comprised the provision of detail soil profile survey of 6,000 ha land to determine the suitability of the land for sugar cane production.
